Background / Why I'm Selling

I bought this bike about 4-5 years ago from another local bike builder when I was still single as a hobby/weekend project for myself. As it was purchased, the bike was already in good shape, but I added a few minor tweaks (modified exhaust, shocks, modern Mikuni carbs, etc) that made the riding experience much better.

I used to ride a big (and heavy) 750CC V-four sport touring bike, and there was always the fear of rolling the throttle too fast and killing yourself on a winding road. After having owned this bike, I've grown to appreciate the efficiency and effectiveness of the smaller motor classes. Sport bike engines are just too big for most people, and for me the 450CC twin is a wonderful compromise in terms of having the right amount of power for cruising and safety. Let's just say I can't do burnouts and wheelies on this bike, but I've been able to comfortably get wherever I wanted to go, and better yet... in style.

That being said, this bike has always turned a lot of heads wherever I went. I wish I could say those heads were turned because of my good looks but, I digress... A lot of the times, I'd be parked getting gas or at the store, and I'd come back to a bunch of guys/girls standing next to my bike, just so they could pick my brain about the tank, motor, or other details. It has always been a great conversation starter =)

Fast forward to today and now I'm married, which undoubtedly, changed a lot of things for me. I've moved out of my bachelor pad studio on the coast, into a house with obligations that eat up my a lot of my money and time. It saddens me that even though I have the space to wrench on the bike as a side project, I just don't have the time or money. So ever since I got engaged, the bike has been sitting idle, waiting for a more deserving owner.

I'm sure there are lots of married gearheads out there who can relate and can see where this is heading...

In any case, I've decided to put her up for sale for to an owner who can really give her the attention she deserves. Below is a list of items, modifications, additions on the bike that have been done so far.

What's Included

All new parts unless specified (or only a few hundred miles since the rebuild):

  • Frame and motor are from a 1969 CL/CB450. The frame has been modified to support the custom tank and fairing, so this for single riders only.
  • Top to bottom engine was rebuild to stock specs except: oversized pistons and an oil pump from a later model for increased oil flow
  • Powder coated engine exterior
  • Cam and followers were resurfaced (hardfaced)
  • Tapered roller bearings in triple tree and new hub bearings from AllBalls
  • Upgraded battery charging system with a regulator/rectifier from OregonMotorcycleParts.com
  • Hydraulic front brake from Fishhead Big Brakes
  • Custom tank from a Benelli Mojave 260
  • Triple tree top from Dime City Cycles
  • Digital speedometer from Trail Tech (battery is dead so I can't read the odometer)
  • LED tail lights from Custom Dynamics (needs some refastening)
  • Mikuni VM32 carburetors (I have a jet kit and I can include the original Keihin CB450 carbs as well)
  • New throttle cables
  • 18" aluminum spoked wheels from Buchannan's in Irwindale
  • Front forks from a 1979 Yamaha XS650
  • Electric starter (kick start pedal was removed due to custom exhaust, but I still have it)
  • Hagon rear shocks
  • Rear drum brake
  • Rebuilt swing arm
  • Custom short exhaust with internal baffle/muffler wrapped in fiberglass
  • Custom stitched red seat pan
  • Stainless steel fasteners used when possible
  • New grips, heat wrap on the exhaust, clutch cable, gaskets/seals, drive chain, tires

I have a few of the original parts (old Keihin carbs, kick starter) if you're interested in going that route.

The bike will probably need a good carb tune up as I never got around to optimizing the tuning for the new Mikuni's that are currently on the bike.

I didn't have a battery tender when I stored it, so the battery is probably dead as well.

BONUS ITEMS

  • Cable lock (brand new)
  • Motorcycle cover
  • All together worth around $100
